Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC) is registered Canadian non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers who are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Boston Terriers and Boston Terrier mixes in Canada. Our mission as a group is to provide safe, temporary refuge leading to a loving, permanent home for Boston Terriers through rescue, education, advocacy and compassion.
Formed in 2009, our program takes in Boston Terriers that are abandoned, neglected, abused or can longer be cared for by their owners and we provide them with a safe haven, medical care, training, emotional support and TLC. Our ultimate goal is to match every dog with a permanent, loving home through our careful adoption process.
Being a nation-wide organization, we do not have a central shelter facility. Instead, we rely solely upon a network of kind and caring volunteer foster homes to help the dogs transition from their previous life to their future forever homes.
Like most things in life, rehabilitating these deserving dogs does require money, with the average cost of veterinary care being around $650 per dog – $300 less than our adoption donation. At any given time, we could be caring for between 30-50 dogs, which often leaves our bank account in the red. Without the aid of our loyal volunteer and donor base and fundraisers like “Pinups for BTRC”, caring for these dogs wouldn’t be possible.
“Pinups for BTRC” is a 2013 – 2014 fundraising project that will involve the sale of a calendar, sellable prints, and other fun promotional items. The intention of this project is to raise the funds necessary to cover vetting costs and rehabilitation of the dogs in our foster program, and to provide the necessary resources for future dogs coming in who need and deserve our help.
The calendar theme and style is inspired by the works of Gil Elvgren, one of the greatest American Pinup artists, and will featured Boston Terriers and lovely ladies in some fun, retro, kitschy settings. These pinup models are our very own female volunteers, dressed in 40’s and 50’s styled clothing, and the Bostons are their own dogs, some former rescues themselves. The calendar will go on sale Fall 2013, and the other merchandise will be made available shortly after; the goal is to have all items available for the Christmas shopping season.
